Judaism, Christianity, and Islam: God gave you free will to choose between obeying his every command without question or getting literally tortured for eternity because he loves you so much! 

Non-followers of the Abrahamic religions:

Judaism: G-d gave us these texts for us to debate about and interpret and he wants us to try our best to follow these rules as we understand them, but if we don’t follow the rules there are literally ZERO NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES aside from it kind of sucks to not live up to your responsibilities! Also, non-Jews have absolutely zero obligation to follow these rules, and we actually discourage people from converting to Judaism unless they’re absolutely sure, because if they aren’t committed to the rules it’s better to have a non-Jew who’s not obligated to follow the rules than a Jew who is obligated and doesn’t follow them! And there is absolutely NO CONCEPT OF HELL, and the closest thing we have is some interpretations that have “everyone spends up to a year in this place becoming Good because no one is perfect in life, and then we all go hang out with G-d and it’s chill”! And it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you’re a good person, because Judaism is an orthopraxy not an orthodoxy, to the point where you can be both religiously Jewish and an atheist!

What part is wow?

The amount of misconceptions and assumptions I’ve had about Judaism. I didn’t expect to be so uneducated, thanks to you I realized I am.

Fun fact, not only is Judaism not like Christianity, a large part of the history of both religions (in the parts of the world where they’ve intersected, at least) is Christians going “Jews are terrible and evil and we hate them and don’t want to be like them” and Jews going “Christians have been persecuting and killing us ever since they got the institutional power to do so and we don’t want to be like them”. A huge amount of why Jews and Judaism are the way they are is due to “let’s do our stuff like this, specifically because it’s not how other people/our oppressors do it” and “let’s not do this thing, specifically because it’s something they do”

And then somewhere along the way Christians came up with this “Judeo-Christian” concept, like, “Jews are just proto-Christians, right? Practically the same thing! We’re all just one big happy family 🙂 except they really should accept jesus otherwise they’re going to hell but we totes love them anyway :)”
